Christmas

~ Joy to the world, The Lord is come
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare him room,
And heaven and angels sing
And heaven and angels sing
And heaven, and angels and nature sing
Joy to the world, The Saviour reigns
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy
No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found
Far as the curse is found
Far as, far as, the curse is found
He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love ~

~ O Holy night
The stars, their gleams prolonging,
Watch o'er the Eve of our dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error, longing
For His appearance, then the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope; the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees. Oh, hear the angel voices
O night divine, the night when Christ was Born
O night, O holy night, O night divine
Led by the light of faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts we stand by the Babe adored
O'er the world a star is sweetly gleaming
And come now, Shepherds, from your flocks unboard
The Son of God lay thus w'thin lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our Lord
He knows our need, our weakness never lasting
Behold your King. By Him, let Earth accord
Behold your King. By Him, let Earth accord
Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Long live His truth, and may it last forever
For in His name all discordant noise shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
With all our hearts we praise His holy name
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we
His power and glory ever more proclaim
His power and glory ever more proclaim ~

Peuple debout! Chante ta délivrance
Noël, Noël, chantons le Rédempteur
Noël, Noël, chantons le Rédempteur ~

~ Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the new-born King
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful, all ye nations, rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With th'angelic hosts proclaim
Christ is born in Betlehem
Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the new-born King ~
Charles Wesley

~ Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin Mother and Child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from Heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah
Christ the Saviour is born
Christ the Saviour is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth ~

~ See, amid the winter's snow
Born for us on Earth below
See, the tender Lamb appears
Promised from eternal years
Chorus:
Hail, thou ever blessed morn
Hail redemption's happy dawn
Sing through all Jerusalem
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Lo, within a manger lies
He who built the starry skies
He who, throned in height sublime
Sits among the cherubim
Say, ye holy shepherds,say
What your joyful news today
Wherefore have ye left your sheep
On the lonely mountain steep
As we watched at dead of night
Lo, we saw a wondrous light
Angels singing 'Peace On Earth'
Told us of the Saviour's birth
Sacred Infant, all divine,
What a tender love was Thine
Thus to come from highest bliss
Down to such a world as this
Teach, O teach us, Holy Child
By Thy face so meek and mild
Teach us to resemble Thee
In Thy sweet humility ~

~ The angel Gabriel from heaven came
His wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame
All hail, said he, thou lowly maiden Mary
Most highly favoured Lady, Gloria
For known a blessed mother thou shalt be
All generations laud and honour thee
Thy son shall be Emannuel by seers foretold
Most highly favoured Lady, Gloria
Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head
To me be as it pleaseth God, she said
"my soul shall laud and magnify his holy Name
Most highly favoured Lady, Gloria
Of her, Emmanuel, the Christ, was born
in Betlehem, all on a Christmas morn
and Christian folk throughout the world will ever say
Most highly favoured Lady, Gloria ~

~ I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men
And thought how, as the day had come
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men
And in despair I bowed my head
“There is no peace on earth,” I said
“For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.”
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep
God is not dead, nor doth He sleep
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men
Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men ~

~ Angels we have heard on high
Singing sweetly o'er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains
Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Shepherds, why this jubilee
Why your joyous strains prolong
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song
Come to Betlehem and see
Him Whose birth the angels sing
Come, adore on bended knee
Christ the Lord, the newborn King ~

~ Ding dong, merrily on high
in heav'n the bells are ringing
Ding dong, verily the sky
is riv'n with Angel singing
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis
E'en so here below, below
let steeple bells be swungen
And Io, lo, lo by priest and people sungen
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis
Pray you, dutifully prime your
Matin chime, ye ringers
May you beautifully rime your
Evetime Song, ye singers
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis ~

~ O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee to-night
O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God the King
And peace to men on earth
For Christ is born of Mary
And gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love
How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is given
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of his heaven
No ear may hear his coming
But in this world of sin
Where meek souls will receive him, still
The dear Christ enters in.
Where children pure and happy
Pray to the blessed Child
Where misery cries out to thee
Son of the mother mild
Where charity stands watching
And faith holds wide the door
The dark night wakes, the glory breaks
And Christmas comes once more
O holy Child of Bethlehem
Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in
Be born in us to-day
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us
Our Lord Emmanuel~

~ The Lord is my light and my salvation
Whom, then shall I fear
The Lord is the strength of my life
Of whom then shall I be afraid
Though a host of men were laid against me
Yet shall not my heart be afraid
And tho’ there rose up war against me
Yet will I put my trust in Him
For in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His tabernacle
Yea, in the secret places
Of His dwelling shall He hide me
And set me up upon a rock of stone ~
Frances Allitsen

~ God rest ye merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
For Jesus Christ our Saviour
Was born upon this day ~

~ Now to the Lord sing praises,
All you within this place,
And with true love and brotherhood
Each other now embrace;
This holy tide of Christmas
All other doth efface ~

~ O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy ~

~ Glory be to God on high
And on earth peace, goodwill towards men
We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee
We give thanks to thee, for thy great glory
O Lord God, heavenly King
God the Father Almighty
O Lord, the only begotten Son Jesu Christ
O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father
Thou that takest away the sins of the world
have mercy upon us
Thou that takest away the sins of the world
receive our prayer
Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father
have mercy upon us
For thou only art holy
Thou only art the Lord
Thou only, O Christ
with the Holy Ghost art most high
in the glory of God the Father
Amen.

~ The Spirit Of Christmas ~
Henry Van Dyke
~ I am thinking of you today because it is Christmas,
and I wish you happiness.
And tomorrow,
because it will be the day after Christmas,
I shall still wish you happiness.
I may not be able to tell you about it every day,
because I may be far away or we may be very busy.
But that makes no difference -- my thoughts and my wishes
will be with you just the same.
Whatever joy or success comes to you
will make me glad clear through the year.
I wish you the spirit of Christmas ~
